I didnt take any SAT II's (i took the ACT with Writing) so i was wondering if this would hurt my chances? I would like to know from current students personally

Not at Rice yet, but on campus they said they weigh the two options equally. Option A: ACT+ Writing, Option B:SAT+Subjects. But, who knows what goes through their minds when they see a student with ACT+SAT+SATII vs a student with just an ACT. The truth is no one will be able to tell you if it hurts your chances. Since you have already sent in your application, don't worry about it. There's nothing you could do anyway.

I did both ACT and SAT + SAT II.
They said that if you send it, they will consider it.

There are no current Rice students who didn't take SAT II's. This is the first year that taking the ACT with writing has been accepted as a substitute for SAT subject tests. I don't think anyone outside of the admissions office can say whether it made a difference, but the testimonials and anecdotes on who got accepted and who didn't that get posted in April will maybe give us a as to whether or not it makes a difference. It will still be just speculation though.

yeah thats what i thought. so i guess me not taking the SAT II's is my downfall :( i mean if i did take some SAT II's, i would've failed miserably. My friend got into Northwestern without any SAT II's and they were optional so IDK. My essay/writing score was pretty good (10 on the essay)

ok...can anyone give me some advice?
I did very well on the ACT (32 composite (math: 28 English: 35 Reading:33 Science: 33 Writing: 31 Essay:8), but my SAT was not good (1820 M:670 CR: 600 W:550). Is it worth it to send in my SAT Score report (they force you to send in reasoning with the SAT II) if I got a 700 Math 2 and a 700 Chem?
thanks so much,
ineo

i say just send in your ACT score . it looks more legit

I think that you should send in your SAT scores. Rice doesnt use writing to evaluate you and your other scores are okay (better than mine and I got in) and your SAT2's are decent as well.

They do use writing.
I asked directly.

They'll use your best scores. DS had a better ACT than SAT. He had to submit SAT II's last year so they saw his SAT and admitted him. His SAT II's were above the average of enrolled applicants, and your SAT II's are slightly below the Class of 2011 average posted on their website so it's not quite apples to apples.

This is just an opinion, but I think the admissions committee is accustomed to seeing SAT II scores since this is only the first year that it was an option not to have them. I'd be inclined to send them.

well when I asked them, the lady said that they are looking at the writing but aren't using it to evaluate the candidate because they are still learning about it.
