800 SAT II Chem
4 on AP (I know, such discrepancy...fairly disappointed)

Considering I have good ECs, SAT I, other SAT IIs, 5s on my future APs, would colleges scorn at my 4? I'm planning to get into an ivy. Can you guys tell me which ivy(ies) dislike low AP scores the most? (don't know how you would get that information, but eh whatever -- whatever you guys believe I guess?)

Most likely, I'll also be planning to major in economics, a major in the social sciences field. But economics also deals with math (calculus, statistics) quite a lot, so is taking IIC is good idea? I've heard severals on this forum advising not to take IIC b/c colleges recognize the high curve and the number of students that actually get 800s on it. And will the college admission officers actually acknowledge that economics does deal with math and therefore if I were to take IIC, they would see that I took it for that reason? Ok, let me rephrase this. Would taking SAT II Physics, for example, be an edge over taking IIC (with same score)?

I have 1 more question (sry for the barrage) Which 3 SAT IIs would you guys suggest taking that would make me favorable towards Ivies? I prefer not Lit or any language please. I'm terrible at both...

If you have some other advice, I'd greatly appreciate it thanks.

ok i am no expert in this ....but umm..i dont really think a four on the AP chem would hurt you THAT much...considering that u have a high history..
o and...i think u should take a math SAT II...i mean since ur majoring in something that has Alot of stats and math...then i think they are gonna want to see math.....i mean..if u think ur a good math person and u think u want to prove urself..i would seriously say u should do MAth 1 C AND 2 C...(provided u can 800 the 1c though)...1 C to prove that ur good in math and that u didnt just do good cause of the curve..and 2 c...well...cause its supposly more 'advanced' ..and it s what most colleges want (according to what i ve Heard on CC)...

as for the SAT II s u should take ..since u dont wanna take lang or lit (like me, and alot of ppl) ur choices aint that many
just take like umm
MAth 1 C and/or Math 2 C
(like i said if ur confident u can do good on 1c and 800 it..if not just go with 2 c)
and well i would say physics..but u ve already done good on a science ..so u might wanna consider a history subject (us history..world history etc..)... u know so that ur like.'varied'

btw i am just saying My OPINION ..its not like i am an expert..infact iam not ....lol..but i figured this might give u ideas..

Don't privates only accept 3 SAT IIs? I don't think I would like to submit Chemistry, IC, and IIC as my 3. Chemistry, US Hist., and IIC will probably work for economics?... ehh? maybe? yeah, i need confirmation/advice/something lol...Thanks

I don't see the point of taking IC if you can do well on IIC. IIC may have a huge curve, but colleges prefer it as it has higher level material. Besides, if you are good at math, you have a better chance of getting an 800 on IIC than IC. In a 50 question, 1 hour test, your bound to make a stupid mistake and on IC it will show up, so then it may come off as if you ahven't even mastered lower level math. On IIC, one error won't show up.

I'm in a similar situation as the OP. I took AP Chem (huge teacher issue--basically our teacher quit halfway through the year and we were so far behind w/ material). I received an A- in the class, and got a 750 on the Chemistry SATII, but I probably got a 2 or 3 on the AP exam. Will my 750 on the SATII partially make up for my exam score??

you don't have to submit any AP scores if you don't want, so don't worry too much about that. AP scores are self reported. as for azsxdc, definitely take math IIc because there are some colleges that require it. taking Ic is pointless unless you aren't good at math and you are unsure whether you will score better on Ic or IIc. for the third, take some kind of humanities exam if you want to appear balenced for an ivy. lit or ush/world history.

I think SAT IIs are way more important than AP scores. I also doubt if a 4 on an AP test would make any difference at all. And I would definately and have taken math 2c cause its so easy to study for and an 800 in anything would look good.( unless ur that smart that u can take 2 other SATIIs and get great scores like physics but eh i guess its cc) Nd yea, I think the 750 makes up for the ap scores cause
A) u dont have to show ap scores
B) if they think theirs grade inflation, they ll c u had a really good sat2 score so they wouldnt give it a thought
C) and most of all these scores arnt gona get anybody into these top colleges, u gota have the whole package.

APs SHOULD be harder than SAT IIs because most SAT IIs are meant to be taken after one year of regular (non-AP) high school study. (This is not the case for languages and lit because it is recommended that you study as many years as possible before taking those exams.)

I think it really depends on the subject whether the AP is harder or equal difficulty to the SATII, assuming you can write essays as well as you can do m/c. I did better on my APUSH exam than on the SATII. Same with bio. But having taken both AP and SATII Chem, I'd say the SATII is much easier than the AP.
