SAT IIs...which Math? Please help, it's for the 10/14 SATs!

I'm registered to take the Bio, US History, and Math IIC SATs this Saturday. Based on practice tests, I'm predicting that I can get in the 700s on the Math (I've been getting anywhere from 690-750 on Barron's, which are supposedly way harder than the actual test). However, my guidance counselor just told me that she called Admissions at Duke and they told her that they don't care about what level the Math SAT II is, unless the student is applying to Pratt. In other words, for a student like me (a Trinity hopeful), they would only look at the numbers. Should I just take the Math I, or take my chances on the Math II? I'm applying ED so this is basically my last chance to take the SATs...please help!

IIC has a sweet curve but harder math.

IC probably has one of the worst curves of all the SAT II tests....

If you are an excellent math student, I would say take the IIC, otherwise the IC.

Barron's is harder... with your score range, you should probably do at leat 730+ on the IIC.

I don't see myself as an excellent math student, but I'm not that bad. I'm thinking that I should take the IIC to make up for my B- on my math final last year (yeah, I know it sucks. hard.) I also scored lowest on the Math section of the SAT I (a 740...no tbad, but worse than CR and Writing). I'm so torn lol! Thanks for the help, though.
P.S. I see that you're applying ED, too...good luck! I'm freaking out over the application...my mom was just like, "The only other time I've ever seen you so stressed was the night before the spelling bee in fourth grade!" lol

Anybody else w/ advice about my little dilemma?

Just go with IIC. The curve is very good (you can miss a few and still get an 800). And, let's face the facts. The test just covers pre-calc topics and is very straight-forward. It's just not THAT hard of a test. Come to think of it, I did better on math IIC than the math section of the SAT I.

Good luck to you too with Duke ED!

Lol, your school's fourth grade spelling bee must have been a lot more intimidating than mine were... which has its ups and downs. Now the geography bee... that was scary!

Also if this helps... if 3 wrong on the Math SAT is a 740 then 3 wrong on the IIC is still an 800.

Another thing is that the Math SAT and IIC test different things.. I have a friend (who currently attends Duke by the way, :D), who got an 800 on the IIC with a Math SAT score around where your score is now.

I'd advise you to skip a problem or two that you aren't sure of, I skipped three and got an 800.

P.S: Nice job on the SAT's! Any tips for the Writing MC?

Wow, good job on the 800!

Hmm as far as Writing goes, I think it's good to read as much as possible before taking the test. Just read anything from the New Yorker to the NY Times, to Time Magazine and Rolling Stone. That's all I did, and I was able to "hear" the right answer when I plugged in the choices of the MC into each question. Definitely don't waste your time trying to memorize all those crazy grammar rules- I didn't know a single one (formally, at least.) It's all about being able to know if, and why, a sentence sounds awkward.

I took IC and i got in
