SAT IIs

I just can’t see how something can only “help” you. I’m sure my lousy SAT II scores hurt me at every school I applied to. Sure, UVA utilizes a holistic approach, but that does not mean aspects of the admissions game are just ignored if poor.

^^But we are discussing the role of SAT II scores in the application process at UVA, and your scores that you describe as “lousy” did not keep you from winning admission to UVA. You appear to be a good example of someone whose SAT II scores did not hurt (or help) them in the application process.

Would submitting math 1 and math 2 work for the two subject tests, or do I need to take them in two completely different subjects?

No you can’t take math 1 and math 2… Those don’t help you at all with placement. You should definitely take your foreign language, even if it is < 700. Then the 2nd one can be math or humanities or whatever.

Thanks. If I take them november 5th, can I still apply early (nov. 1) and send my scores when they come in?

No.

I strongly suggest reading the rest of Dean J’s entry on this at the following link. I just went though this process last year and thought I was pretty well versed on sending SAT’s, the delay in getting them to schools, etc. I learned some new information.

That said, don’t be disappointed or forgo taking the SAT2’s to make an early deadline!! The only benefit of EA is going to be finding out early. Don’t misunderstand me, emotionally that is a big deal, however it’s not worth not including tests that are ‘strongly recommended’. You didn’t ask specifically about leaving them off an application (at least I don’t remember you doing so), however others have, so this is more for their benefit.

Good luck to you AH5050!
