SAT IIs

I don’t want to be another person complaining over a score that isn’t horrible by any means but I do have a genuine concern that I’d like to hear opinions on. I applied to many undergraduate business programs and many of these schools of course require SAT IIs but my scores in US history (670) and Math II (670) were a bit subpar. I signed up to take the Physics and Math II in January and studied much more this time around only to have my test snowed out and postponed all the way to February 21st…tomorrow. Needless to say these scores will not reach colleges until most final decisions have been made. My question is whether or not it worth it to take the test at this point? My SAT superscore is decent (2150) and I have good ECs, would a 750+ in Math II really make enough difference for it to be worth me taking this test tomorrow? Any input is much appreciated.

Seeing SATs are for college entry and that because you were unfortunate enough to get snowed on your test day, I think you should just opt out of the test; I mean, why would you take a college entrance test that would have no effect on colleges’ decision about your acceptance? 2150 is fine and dandy for almost all schools barring some ivies and some selective liberal arts colleges, and honestly a 750 and a 670 will not make or break any application. So, I would think taking the test isn’t worth your time.

If you’re taking them for college admissions purposes, then you need to make sure that colleges will consider them. Otherwise, there is no point in taking them. Like you said, they likely won’t reach colleges in time before a decision has been made on you. Your only and best option is to find out for sure.

This is hilarious. The makeup day has been cancelled due to possible weather conditions again, so there will be no test. At this point I just want my money back. College board sent me email saying I could have a credit for another test date. Because I just love taking the SAT for fun.

Did they contact you just today?

Ask for a refund. Call every day till you get one. (Or have an adult call every day on your behalf).

As for SAT2 use past the application date: It’s only valuable if you applied to colleges that grant placement and/or credit in foreign language. Indeed, some colleges will allow you to bypass some foreign language classes and/or waive the requirement altogether if you reach a certain (high) score in a foreign language they offer. Obviously, this depends on the college, and it doesn’t apply for any other subject that I know of.

You should definitely get your SAT II scores above 700, at least. Especially on Math II, 670 isn’t going to cut it.

I understand that I needed above a 700 but now I have no opportunity to do that. And yes they emailed me late last night.

Good subject test scores are important for Ivy league and top LACs but depending upon where you are applying, your 2150 is great

I have a few safeties and matches, I’m more concerned that the scores will just shut me out of a chance at any of my reaches like Cornell, Penn, and Notre Dame. Thanks for the info @MYOS1634‌. I definitely won’t be taking any foreign language SAT IIs so that doesn’t exactly apply to me, but I definitely will be calling persistantly for a refund

If it is cancelled, you should probably email your colleges and explain that the original test date was cancelled, and then the make-up date was cancelled as well. That will probably help a bit at your reaches.

That’s probably a good idea considering I put that I was taking the tests on my common app. I will include it in the update letter I was going to send.
