I just got my scores back and they're AWFUL! I got a 570 and a 580. I'm applying to Gallatin and I have good SAT I (1430). Assuming that I write a good essay and a letter explaining exactly why I want to go to Gallatin, how much is this going to hurt me?

What's scaring me is that one of those scores is literature. In no way do those scores reflect the type of student I am. I got a 3 on my AP exam last year. That made sound bad at first, but my teacher didn't have us write one essay all year, so that first essays I had written in a year were on the AP exam. I'm also in AP english this year, and I'm getting A's on the majority of my papers. The other SAT II I took was math I. Ironically, I have an A in AP stat. Sorry for this little tangent. Gallatin is the perfect school for me and I'm really afraid I've messed up my chance.

This is the first year that NYU has required Subject Tests, I'm pretty sure they'll be a little lenient
