sat ii's

how bad is it to have taken the math 1 and not the math 2?

Depends on what your math classes have prepared you for. If they’ve prepared you for math II and you took math I, it probably won’t look too good, but it won’t kill your chances.

stanford’s website says that if you submit a Math SAT subject test, they want it to be Math II. So don’t use Math I as one of your 2 SAT subject tests for Stanford.

if the most advanced math in my high school is pre calc and you cant take it until senior year, will they understand if i took math 1 as ive only been able to take 1 semester of pre calc so far?? or should i submit other tests?

you need to submit something other than Math I as one of your 2 subject tests. Stanford’s site is pretty clear that they don’t want Math I. So in that sense, they won’t ‘understand’ - they want you to submit any 2 SAT Subject tests, OTHER THAN the Math I. So yes, submit something else - 2 others, in fact! :)

thanks for the advice :)

Well, technically you should be fine, as they don’t require subject tests at all. So if you took two, one of them being math I, then they’d only recognize one of them.

great, thanks

gobears, Stanford is not sat II optional - they say they are not required, but are highly recommended. So unless you are very low income, or live in a country where it is hard to take SAT IIs, you would be well advised to do as they ask, and send in 2 SAT IIs, excluding Math I, if you want to be a competitive candidate. So it’s your call at this point, to decide waht to do.

i have 2 besides math I so it’s all good

There are plenty of people who get in without SAT IIs and without any such explanations. It’s recommended, yes, but again, that’s just a recommendation. Many students do just fine without them.
