SAT IIs

I was just flipping through “Boston College- Off the Record” on Amazon, and from the one section it let me read, it made it seem that you have to take a foreign language SAT II. Is this true? I know I need at least two.
I’ll probably end up taking the Spanish one (I love Spanish, and I’m one of the best in my grade), but I heard that the foreign language subject tests are almost impossible. Is this true? And is there a speaking part on the SAT II?

"it made it seem that you have to take a foreign language SAT II. Is this true? I know I need at least two."

No. You do not have to take foreign language. If the book actually proclaims this as mandatory, then it's a very poorly researched book.

Thanks... It didn't seem all that reliable to me. But then again, I could have misinterpretted it.
Does it matter a great deal which subject tests I do take?

dont think it does.. i think after math, the most popular is one of the sciences. i took math II and us history and got in though. lots of people take the foriegn language one too. i THINK one of the policies is that if you score over a certain cutoff, then you can be out of your language requirement. cant remember though, im pretty sure it says it somewhere on BCs site.

i know that the language sat 2's are notorious for being very difficult

The foreign language SAT 2's will help you in testing out of a language class, provided that you do ascertain a certain score on the test. I know this is true for CSOM; however, I doubt its true for A&S since I've been told that their foreign language is stricter than CSOM's.

Will AP help me test out of a language class requirement?
I guess it doesn't really matter to me, since I plan on pursuing a language in college, though. I was just so scared about the SAT II being impossible.

Yes, an AP will help you test out of a language requirement at BC, but since you want to pursue a language, the point becomes moot.

I didn't know if it would help me test out of a basic language requirement to and pursue a more advanced language course.
But I have ? -- could I start taking Latin?

you're not bound to a certain language. I think that you are able to take any language BC offers in order to complete the language core.

BC has a language requirement that can be fulfilled by taking an SAT II in the language of your choice. D skipped taking a fourth year of her language in HS, but prepped up for the SAT II toward the end of her senior year, and was able to test out--she was A & S. She ended up taking a language both semesters of her senior year at BC, and loved it (different from her HS language!)
