does barnard really look for high sat II scores ? or just wants to see that they are taken?

They are not required. My d took no SAT IIs when she applied....wow....three years ago!

Not sure exactly how to answer this question....of course, the higher the better??

but can low sat ii scores give u a rejection from barnard ... i think they r required ...or do they just want them so they can use it for placement if accepted??

They can help, too. D took them before the writing was part of the regular SAT. She scored really well. Pretty sure that gave her a boost.

I actually think SAT II scores are required for Barnard now. I'm not sure how high they are looking for.. It's really more of a percentile thing in terms of those scores anyway.

I think the general rule for a school of Barnard's caliber is that 700 + is good.

they are required, or, you can take the ACT with writing instead. but i think you still need the SAT even if you do that? i'm not sure.

i think that when it comes to how much they're weighed, it's probably a little less than the SAT. these tests (and the ACT, etc) aren't weighed as heavily as GPA and everything else, remember that.

i don't think it's 700+ for those scores. the class of 2011's median scores were lower than that, i believe. i scored in the low 600s on all three sections (combined was 2000) and i got in.

hmmm...if you take the ACT and SAT IIs, and you scored really high for the ACTs but not as well in the SAT IIs, will Banard "overlook" the SAT IIs because of your high ACT score?

SAT IIs are definitely required. I don't think SAT IIs scores, in general, are as important as SAT I, as long as you do well and show proficiency. For those whose schools do not offer APs, however, or for those who did not score well on their AP exams, the SAT II may be more important. These comments are general to LACs, not specific to Barnard, by the way.

Well, you don't send your AP scores to colleges for admission, so I don't think that they're related in anyway.

It says on the web site regarding SAT II's that you need to take them (2) if you submit the SAT for your test score. If you take the ACT with writing you do not have to take them.

but what if you take both? will they favor your high ACT over your two low SAT IIs?

Why would you submit the SAT II's if you are submitting the ACT?? You don't need to and they would never see them.

Hi, can one take SAT subject tests in November for early decision application?
I understand ED deadline is Nov. 15 - is it too late?

Thanks

twilightdreamxx, i'd have to guess that yes, they do favor your higher scores, whether they're ACT, or SAT 1/2. the tests are different, and some people do better on one than the other. I can attest that those who seem to do poorly on the SAT (or not as good as their high school grades suggest), tend to do better on the ACT. i'm pretty sure admissions knows this.

melamede, i think it's too late. isn't there an october date?

Snivellus, you do send them to college if you take an AP class junior year. i remember convincing myself my one AP junior year looked really good (although, who knows).

melamede - yes, you can take SAT Subject tests in November even if you're applying for early decision admission. I did that. Just call the Admissions office to see if that's OK with them. I don't remember having to rush-deliver my scores or anything, but it depends on how long it'll take this year to get the scores to Barnard the regular way.

panda2 - i took two AP classes during my junior year and I definitely didn't send the exam scores to college--I knew right off the bat that they probably wouldn't be that great.

Your APs were probably something supplemental. I've taken APs since freshman year, and it never really occurred to me to send the scores, because I always thought of them as just grades for credit/placement in college.
