SAT II's

I just got my results back from the May SAT II's...
I'm planning on applying SCEA to Stanford in November and was wondering how important these scores are in the admissions process...
I'm not the best with standardized testing, but my grades, classes, ECs, etc. are all really good...

I got a 740 in Spanish and a 700 in bio (I know it's a little low)...I think I'm gonna retake bio because I hadn't finished studying for bio when I took the test...I'm taking the Math II subject test in June as well...

What scores are considered "competitive"? Are these really that important?

I had similar question. I received 730 chemistry, 720 us history, 800 math. should i improve them or are these competive enough that il be qualified

really, as long as its over 700 it doesn’t matter what it actually is. you’re both obviously intelligent enough, and they’ll see that… now the make or break question is, what can your unique passions contribute to the university and society as a whole?
i was talking with the admissions officer who read my app and admitted me, and she said the most important thing to do is to show your passions well enough to get your reader to believe in you and your abilities - and believe in you strongly enough to present your application before the committee.

ngolsh314 is very correct. There are set standards for everything, and colleges don’t really discriminate between a 750 and a 710. Plus, Stanford doesn’t require SAT II’s, the reason being that they don’t think these tests are the best indicator of what kind of work you’ll be capable of at college.

As long as your grades are okay, and the rest of your application doesn’t have many glitches, you should be fine.

ngoldsh314 & uneverknow, thank you so much!
so i shouldn’t retake biology at all?

yeah, i definitely have a really strong passion (want to work with autistic kids as a career) and i’m volunteering at this camp for autistic kids over the summer (which i’m planning on writing an essay on)…definitely planning on making sure the admissions officers can see/believe my passions through my essays…

they are certainly competitive
are they on the upper end of the applicant pool-that is a different question.

keep in mind that about 6-12% of testers get perfect scores on their subject test depending on the subject. thats a lot, and almost all of them will be applying to the same schools

i just got my math II score back, and i got a 700…
so my final SAT II scores are: Spanish-740, Biology-700, Math 2-700
With good grades and ECs, will these scores hurt my chances?
I got a 32 on the ACT but am retaking in September (hoping for a 34)…

^I doubt that they will help

yeah, i know they won’t help cuz theyre low…but would they break my chances? or is it hard to say?

I don’t know if they’ll hurt or not. I highly doubt (though nothing is really sure) that they will break your chances, though. So if they end up hurting your chances, it’s probably not by much.

alright, thank you!

they are “good enough”

there is no cut off for SAT subject tests, or anything else for that matter

they are not so awesome they will get u in (because no scores are) and they are not anywhere near bad enough to hurt you

relax :)
