why is this the error listed in the CB book

The quality of multivitamin tablets (is determined) by (how long) (its) potentcy (can be protected) by the manufactor's coating material

answer listed: (its)

Multivitamin tablets = plural noun. Thus, "its" should be "their," and also "potentcy" is spelled incorrectly, but I'm not sure if that's a CB mistake.

nah its a dan mistake....thanks

The questions is, what is the "its" referring to? Vitamins. Vitamins have potency, quality does not, so "Vitamins" is the antecedent and "Vitamins" is plural. The pronoun should be "their."

(Note that "Quality" is the subject of the verb "is determined", so the agreement there is fine.)

thanks for the help im really freaking out right now its crunch time

Just stay cool, Dan. And kick some SAT ***!

BTW, pronoun agreement problems are really common, so any time a pronoun is underlined, or any time a pronoun changes among different improving sentences answer choices, check it for agreement...

Not sure why "problem" is the error here. It sounds like a perfectly fine predicate nominative to me. Perhaps CB's reasoning is that something like "issue" would be better diction. But that's really stretching it...

This is simply a bad diction problem, I think.

It appears that this action can still take place, and is not an impossible hypothetical situation, therefore the more positive "will not" should be used.

Whew...finally a clear one. This one is a typical dangling modifier problem. Coconuts and other fruits cannot be shipwrecked...

people is redundant since it already says population.
