sat is dumb. who's with me?

sat is dumb.

freshman year i got 2070 w/ a 9 essay

june of junior year got 2260 (800, 800, 660w w/ a 5 essay but perfect mc)

october got 2170 (740, 740, 690 w/ 8 essay)

november got 2400 w/ 12 essay (after I memorized the formula for writing the sat essay)

i didn't study for any so that variable doesn't change (other than memorizing essay formula). i got the same amount of sleep the night before and same testing site. Im decently smart, if i may say so. I'm also pretty good at taking tests. But the inconsistency is just random.

oh, and another observation: ACT is more consistent and i think it's a better test. I got a 36 twice -- no major fluctuations (one for mandatory state testing)

my personal conclusion: SAT is stupid. and i don't think that ppl w/ 2400's are any better than those with 2150 (in some cases)...so how can colleges put so much weight on SATs?

first off...congrats on ur 2400...u have no idea how jealous i am...not sure how u can just be naturally good at it like that...anyway...i dont think colleges put a lot of weight on the difference between a 2150 and a 2400. both are great scores. that said, i do think the test is random.

660w w/ a 5 essay but perfect mc

I don't believe this. According to all the curves I've seen, a perfect MC with a 5 essay is anywhere from a 700-730.

740 = how many math wrong?

3 is a lot to get randomly wrong

I definitely agree that the ACT is the better, more consistent test. SAT scores among individuals do seem to be subject to a lot more fluctuation on average than ACT scores. Most people score about the same on the ACT after taking it again, give or take a composite point or two.

I agree with everyone...congrats. Would you mind sharing your "formula" you used to get a 12 on your essay?

colleges are not with you though =[

Idk. The Sat (at least for me) is a good representation of ability. Im definitly strong in English and I got an 800 in CR. On the other hand, I'm terrible at math and only got 610. IDK that's just my opinion

A high score on the SAT indicates a high level of ability, a lower score doesn't necessarily indicate a low level of ability.

You got two 36s? Why'd you take it again if you already had a 36? Or was the first one a practice test?

Great job, by the way.

how the hell did you get a 2170 in october and a 2400 in november? i got a 2370 in october and tried november but found it harder and more confusing.

after getting 2370 you took it again? you're crazy. 2370 is AMAZING.

He's either:

A liar

^ looks like someones jealous

Not really. I'm already pretty close to a 2400 myself. But, seriously, it doesn't make sense.

You're calling the SAT dumb just because your scores improved after studying? That makes sense.

I call a troll. Why would you take the ACT AGAIN after getting a 36. So in total, you've taken 4 SAT's, and 2 ACT's, scored a perfect on both ACTs and decided to take the SAT for fun and scored a 2400.

arachnotron: i changed my scores a little so that one test was 10 pts off, the other was 20 off (I don't want people to know who I am haha, srry) it was actually a six essay, and I missed 2 MC so...yeah
thiscouldbeheaven: i actually missed two on the math and my score was 750 not 740. once again i changed it by a little.

the 2400 is legit.

razad: the essay formula is "get a book and it tells u what to write" basically, intro/3 body/conclusion, use specific examples not genearlizations (which i did before)...start writing right away so u fill up all the space (yes longer = better score usually)...oh yeah and acknowledge the opposite argument

freakchild: yeah, it was cuz the 2nd ACT was a mandatory state test, so i was required to take it.

chocklit rain: i can't believe u retook a 2370. so did u get a lower score in november? and did that get reported as well?
oh and how did i do it? well i already got a 800 in CR first time (missed 1 and omitted 1), 2nd time i got 750 (missed 4), math i missed 1 first time and got 790, 2nd time i missed 2 and got 750. the 1st writing i missed 2 mc got 6 esssay, 2nd time i missed 3mc got 8 essay = 690.

anyway, sorry that i changed my scores a bit -- i few uncomfortable reporting my real scores.

and Zenbadabing: i didn't study (other than for the essay)--- its just that some days u do well on the SAT and some days u dont do as well.

take the sentence completion section in CR for example, one test u may get lucky and know most of the words. another test u might not. its so variable.

nooob: ok im a troll then....whatever (sarcasm)---the point of this thread is not to determine the validity of my scores. it's to argue that the SAT can be inconsistent (notice i said "can be" and not "very") meaning that a high score means u have the ability to get that, while a low score may mean u "suck" or that you had a bad day.

on and i explain why i retook the ACT in the post above. 1st time was early april. 2nd time was late april for state testing (mandatory). I tried on the 2nd test date bcuz i didnt get my first scores yet. happy?

oh and i took the SAT for following reasons:
1. bcuz i already took it once freshman year, i didn't want a 2040 to be the only SAT on my record (since im submitting SAT II's, they show up)
2. i heard the SAT was more respected on the east coast since ACT is more a midwest test
3. im a nerd that likes to take tests...did u wanna hear me say that?

Sorry if I sound a bit hostile. I had a competition today and I did bad.

^ i canceled the november test but it would have been worse
