SAT :)ish, GPA :o

I have strong/above avg ECs/volunteering but…

SAT: 1450(M:800, RW: 650)
GPA: 3.2ish UW, 3.7 W

All AP and honors except english(Although I just took the AP english test and got a 3)

I have pretty reasonable barriers that affected my GPA despite my personal lack in valuing alot of the school work since I would retain the information without hw. (diagnosed w/ ADHD in Junior year, Major family problems(told in essay pretty well))

I am thinking Aerospace Engineering

Also lmk how my chances are despite any “excuse” for low GPA so like just stats

Is your weighted GPA of 3.7, your CSU/UC capped weighted GPA?

How Cal States admit:

The Cal states admit by major and eligibility index. They really only consider GPA/Test scores/Geographic location and HS course rigor. Other than Cal Poly SLO, your EC’s are not considered.

You need to calculate your CSU/UC GPA using grades from a-g courses taken 10-11th.

https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Not sure which courses are a-g and will give you extra honors points, then use this link by typing in your HS name?

https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/institution

Cal states and the majority of the UC’s use the capped weighted GPA.

Then calculate your Eligibility index:
If you took the Redesigned SAT:
(CSU capped weighted GPA X 800) + (SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) + Math Score) = Eligibility Index

Eligibility index for ACT:
(CSU capped weighted GPA X 200) + (ACT Composite x10)= Eligibility Index

You will then be ranked based on EI and major and they accept from the top down until all spots are filled.

You will get priority at your local CSU which you can look up on this link. Local applicants usually require a lower EI to get an acceptance unless the program is highly impacted.

An EI of 4100+ makes an applicant competitive for most majors at SDSU. Much will depend upon the stats for each in-coming Freshman class and as the # of applicants increase so does the competition.

Thank you for the information @Gumbymom My UC capped is 3.54 which is troublesome…

My EI would be 4282

Idk if they will consider, but my math is 800 so the 1450 as a whole doesn’t give the best picture of my mathematics strength.

Also since ik the UC gpa averages for uc schools…and where I stand, it is pretty bad although my SAT shows otherwise. SDSU is honestly the lowest I am willing to go since the level of classes is by no means easy but just not where I desire so idk if there is a school (uc santa cruz and the other ucs except merced and riverside are on my list too) I dont want merced and riverside due to location and also at that point, a cc wold be smarter…

Anyways back to where i stand lol

With an EI of 4282, you look competitive for SDSU.

I cannot give you major specific data for the UC’s but just based on the capped weighted UC GPA, here is the overall admit rates.
FYI: CSU Long Beach and San Jose have a different EI calculation for Engineering majors which puts more emphasis on the SAT Math score.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:

UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 15%
UCSB: 14%
UCI: 13%
UCSC: 59%
UCR: 78%
UCM: 92%

With the UC’s, your test scores will be highly considered along with your EC’s and essays, so definitely worth applying.

Best of luck.

Much appreciated @gumbymom Also just so u dont get annoyed…I thought I lost my post with all my info due to wifi, but it saved so ill be posting that on the what are my chances blog, so dont bother wasting ur time on it if u ever happened to see it

No problem and with solid essays, you have a decent chance at some of the UC’s regardless of what the stats I posted do show you. Make sure you apply widely and have at least one safety school on your list. You will get an great education at many of the CSU’s and even UC’s like UC Riverside. It is not as important on where you go for Undergrad, but what you do with opportunities you are given.

@gumbymom UC Davis gave me some supplemental questions to answer regarding disabilities/problems. I truthfully answered them, when appropriate, by mentioning the mental and physical stress from my parents. Although I believe it is important to do so, do colleges look at this as a negative thing that shows my “emotions are unstable” and might affect my college experience??(Becuase I have read that listing depression is not a good idea). I didnt list depression, but just told them the family conditions I had to go through.

If you were honest about your situation with your parents, then it should not hinder your chances, especially if UCD sent you the supplemental questionnaire. Mental Health issues can be a negative, but hopefully you explained your situation well and it will have no negative conitations.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in or if you were denied. It’s up in the air, especially since your SAT score is still really good. SDSU’s most recent avg entrance GPA for freshman is around a 3.8 and they got a lot more applications this year than last year so it’s gonna be really hard to tell. If SDSU is the “lowest” you will go then I recommend looking into CC then transfer to a UC with a tag agreement. Good luck.
