^Do you mean a raw score of 51 (54 - 3) or do you mean 3 wrong? With 3 multiple choice wrong, you have a raw score of 50. A 720 for a raw score of 50 is a pretty typical curve for SAT math ...

fignewton, does the SAT only counts deductions in the points to the whole or round up or what? I've been hearing too many things.. if you get -.75 points off out of 20 questions is that 17 (points earned) -.75 or because .75 isn't a whole.. it stays at 17? anyone..

The way I understood it was that they round to the nearest whole number. If you get three wrong out of 20, and your score is 16.25, they would round down to 16.

he's right. if you grade your tests in BB, that's what they tell you. that's why if you think you'll miss fewer than 2 total in a section, you shouldn't skip. skipping takes away a potential 1 from your score, missing the question takes away 1.25

@ Mde: From brief surveys at school, I have come to the conclusion that if you pull a perfect on the M/C, then the lowest you can get on the essay is a 9. If you miss one on the M/C, then you have to pull an 11 or 12 on the essay. If you miss two or three, then you need to pull a 12 essay. I think CollegeBoard might be a little messed up because it said that I had a raw of 76 in writing, then when the score report came out, I had only missed 1 M/C with a 12 essay.

@ Arachnotron: How do you tell if you ordered QAS? I forgot whether or not I ordered it, and I can't find the credit card report for December, the month I signed up for the SAT. And in the case when you didn't order QAS, can you still order it?

You'll know if you ordered QAS if the "order score services" link is next to your score or not. And, yes, you can still order it up to 6 months after the test date, iirc.

@hell-spider: If you're worried about posting the qas curve, you can always sent it to me, I'll happily add it to my pdf file (at which point they become numbers) and post the link. I wouldn't think it would be a problem to post the scan, though, perhaps gcf can chime in here. Do you happen to have the complete October 2008 curve?

I am not really an expert on these matters, but from the common sense point of view QAS is copyright protected, so reproducing it without the CB permission seems to be breaking the applicable rules/laws.
I don't think there is a problem in using the test scoring table for a research and making the results available to the public, provided you indicate the source.
If I am contradicting myself I have an excuse - I am only human. :)

And I do happen to have the October 2008 curve.
