I'm taking the SAT French with listening subject test next Saturday, and I have some questions. I bought the Collegeboard's book entitled The Study Guide to all SAT Subject Tests and I was listening to the French with listening CD. On the CD, they gave some simple instructions. They said that I should not fast forward, stop or rewind the CD at any time. This sounds crazy. What if I miss a part of one of the dialogs and want to hear it again?? Will I be able to?? Any help would be very appreciated!!

No, you cannot rewind, fast-forward or pause. There are pauses built into the CD that allow you time to answer the questions, but otherwise all of the dialog is suppossed to br heard once.

Wow that's awful! So it's absolutely impossible to listen to one of the dialogues twice?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to...how would the proctor know?

I'm not sure. I think they might have done something to the CD. I honestly don't know. On the CD for the practice tests, they really emphasize that you will hear the dialogues 'ONLY ONCE'. I'm not sure if this means that you won't be able to rewind, or that they simply won't repeat the same dialogue twice. Either way, I think I'm prepared, and I'll just listen very attentively to the dialogues. I just dont want any unwanted surprises, so if anyone has any other information...

i took the japanese test. hahaha, U CAN just rewind/forward u know. but be careful. EVERY LANGUAGE CD's end at same time (they take off headphone at same time), so if ur CD's not finished, ur kind of screwed. what i did was fast-forward unnecessary parts like instructions, and questions that repeat 2 times. there's no need to hear it the 2nd time. if u finish faster than other test takers, just wait lol

also, u should skip the pause between questions.

Ohhh...does it start the test, the listening portion?

The listening part is at the beginning.

I thought we were allowed to do the SAT sections in whatever order we wanted! I have a tendency to space out when I'm listening to the dialogues, but I think I will be a bit more attentive when I do the real thing. Thanks!
