So I've been taking an sat math 2 prep course over the summer, and after two classes, I'm failing that class already and am totally lost. I heard the test itself is pretty easy, so im worried about what this means. ive always gotten high A's in honors math classes, so i may have overestimated myslef. The course is really intensive and over prepares you to get an 800, but I'm feeling really Down on myself and panicking. Everyone else in the class has taken pre calculus, but I'm taking a low-level summer course in pre calc simultaneously, and I'm doing really well in that, but I will haven't learned all the material. Is it time to panic, or do you think it's cuz I haven't learned pre calc yet. Also, any advice for me? I would like close to 800...

At the moment, you may be at a slight disadvantage since you’re still in the middle of pre-calc but no worries. I’m sure you’ll finish the summer course by the October test (if that’s when you’re planning to take it) so you should be fine for the test. Just do well in your summer course and make sure you learn the concepts well. I would also recommend that you complement your SAT Math II prep course with Barron’s because I personally found it quite helpful as far as practice tests go. The practice tests are tougher than the actual test, so the book will over-prepare you for sure but they’re worth it.

I got a 770 on the math 2 but I took precalc. Anyways it should not be that hard if you pay attention in your class since the curve is great (-7 can = 800). Also, the practice books are way harder so don’t panic. And I failed Barron’s so idk if that is a good predictor.

Also, make sure you see what parts of precalc you’re having trouble on and prioritize sections that are most tested. For example, probability questions are few, so even though I struggled with doing those, I knew that I could get all of those wrong and still get an 800 if I managed to get the questions that I knew how to do right. Also your calculator is your best friend, so when in doubt…see if you can do it graphically.

Here’s how I got an 800 on the SAT Math II this June (I’m a rising sophomore)…

I go to a pretty good school, and I’m one grade above all the honors students…so I’m taking AP Calc BC…but after I took Honors Precalc (in which I got an A+), I just decided to take the subject test. What I did was just take a couple of practice tests (2), and it was fine…like there is SUCH a HUGE curve on the test. Upon receiving my score report, it said I was 83rd percentile, meaning that 17% of the people who took the test that day also got an 800 (my twin brother included
).

What I suggest is ensuring that you know all of the trig formulas, conics forumulas, and anything else that may be important…you’re graphing calculator can do wonders for you if you know how to effectively use it…

What areas do you need help in?

Thanks for all the help and encouragement guys! @performante, it’s tough to say what I need help with right now, since I am not finished with pre calc. I’ll let you know, but thanks for all the advice. It’s pretty tough since I took algebra 2 2 years ago, and just took geometry ( which doesn’t make sense at all)

I’d recommend taking it after precalc in your 10th (gifted accel)/11th honor year in math. I have precalc for my upcoming junior year and I’ve scheduled my SAT subject tests during the next Spring break, where I will have had a great amount of precalc covered, as well as other subjects :)
