I really want an 800 on the SAT Math Level 2 (probably going to take in May). I just finished reading the Princeton Review SAT Math 1 and 2 book and am wondering if I should read another review book because the PR book barely taught anything. Almost everything was plug in the choice and check it. Any other good books out there? I have Barron's also, but am hesitating on reading it because I glanced at the first few pages and it looks terrible (just plain sloppy).

I don't think there's much out there that's that great for Math II. I found the test in the CB book covering all the SAT IIs to be way easier than the actual test. The general consensus seems to be that Barron's is the best way to go, although I didn't use it and still got an 800. Their practice tests are way harder than the actual test, so if you can handle those the actual test should go really smoothly for you.

Along with practice tests, the best prep is a thorough review of Algebra II and Pre-Calc concepts. However, I would warn you to be ready for unusual applications of concepts that may otherwise be familiar to you. While I knew virtually every concept on the test when I took it, I got some questions wrong because I had never seen the concept applied that way or didn't realize what concept/method was supposed to be applied to some of the questions. Just my personal experience. Fortunately, because of the curve you can afford to not know how to answer some questions and still come away with an 800.

Barron's is good. The review section is pretty thorough. The practice tests, however, are much harder than the actual test. On Barron's practice tests, I hovered around from 760-800. On the actual test, I scored an 800 EASY (I'm confident that I got a 49/50 or 50/50 raw score. After talking over every hard question on the test in the thread on this site about the January 09 Math II, I know I didn't miss any of the questions discussed).

Barrons is overprep DONT freak out if youre scoring in the low 700s, but if you get around 750 or greater on barrons it means you're guaranteed above 750 on the real thing, i got a 780 using barrons

Barron's is very problematic, but you should still use it. If you do, you'll never encounter any foreign material on the real test. It got me an 800.

@Latency: Haha I was convinced I got an 800 too after looking at the answers (although I posted all of them lol)

i had four days to prepare for maths level 2... got a 800 on the actual test...
here is what i did.... took a barrons diagnostic test and got a 680 on it...
(getting a 630ish on barrons still means u can score a 800 on actual thing)
read princeton review hurriedly...... did its practice tests ...got like above 750 on both tests....
did abt five tests frm barrons (untimed) ...u only do barrons practice tests to learn!!!!! don use it to evaluate urself...just give revision to to those questions which u do wrong....

but i had 100% on my Advanced Subsidiary level mathematics therefore four days were enough...if u r good at maths in highschool u really don need to freak abt the math level 2..
u ll get a 800 or u wont....its really wht iz ur state of mind during the test...... don spend ur previous night in cinema or even study late, this might luk cliche but its true... i took three subject test on the same day..my progress went down on each successively....800 on first(math level 2)...780 on second physics....and 750 on chemistry which was my strongest subject(had a 800 on each and every practice test!!!!!)
good luck!!!!

and yeah i went to sleep at 2 am ...if u takin more than one test same day be at bed around 11:30......

I just read the Princeton Review book and did all of the problems and then I got a 800 on the exam. I think PR has a good overview of everything that is going to be on the exam, nothing more, nothing less. If you need extra practice than I would use Barrons.

Barron’s is freaking me out.

It’s perfectly normal to be freaked out by Barron’s-it is excessively difficult.

Yeah, but it’s not that bad for Bio so that must mean I’m a lot worse at math so I’m screwed.

I just took the 1st practice test out of the Barron’s book, and got a 720 (probably a 680-720 since I didn’t time myself). Kind of freaked me out since I want an 800 and can score an 800 out of exam in the “Official SAT Subject Tests Book.” Is this good or bad?

^ You’re just like me! I get around (680-720) on Barron’s (timed), and I got a 780 on CB’s official test (I made a few really stupid mistakes). I was really amazed at how much easier the CB test was - if I had not rushed as much I probably would have only missed 2-3 questions. Generally, people say Barron’s is 0-150 points harder and CB is a little easier.

Seriously? Up to 100 some points lower than the actual exam? Wow… but I guess that depends on the person too.

Thanks —the CB test was ridiculously easy compared to the Barron’s (Let’s hope the real test is that way to )
If that range is true then I should be fine for the real exam. But the Barron’s exam did teach me a lot of things I had forgotten. I’ll just take another Barron’s exam after reviewing my mistakes, if I can get, say 750+, that means I am really ready for next Saturday,

do you guys know where to get tests that closely resemble the actual CB Math 2 test? Because I want to see how the questions are asked…

For future reference, don’t get the Princeton Review book for the math subject tests. Half the answer explanations are “Plug in the answers” =/

asd: CB has 3 released Math 2 exams, 1 in the Subject Test Guide and another 2 in their Math 1 and Math 2 Official Study Guide. Princeton Review also does a decent job of writing accurate test questions. Barron’s is much more difficult than the real thing, but if you can do Barron’s fairly easily, you’re headed for an excellent score.

^ Don’t the three exams overlap? I mean isn’t the one in the official guide also in the Math I/II book? If not I need to go get Subject Test Guide!

Sorry to bug in, I got a 650 on the Diagnostic test, what is that on the real test?
