I’m a little confused on the scoring on the SAT Math 2 Subject Test. I was told I could miss around 8 questions and still get an 800. I left around 10 blank, and I’m confident I got the other 40 right. On the SAT Math 2 practice book, if calculated it with missing 8 questions, the raw score comes out to be a 41.25, which is a 720. Could someone explain the scoring to me?
How book scores:
Number Correct - Number Incorrect(.25)= Raw Score
Each test can have a different curve. It’s impossible to know whether a 40 will be a 800 or a 720 or some other number before the results are released. It all depends on how the other test takers did.
Yes. That is how all tests administered by the ETS are scored. I know that people always say “The curve is so lenient!” “How can anyone not get an 800?” Well, it’s happened to me twice. The cutoff raw score (meaning with penalties) is usually 44/45. Which means, you can omit 5/6 and if you do everything else right, you can get an 800. If you skip 1, and miss 4, you’ll have a fair shot at an 800. If you miss 5 and omit none, then you still have a fair shot for an 800. You can’t miss more than 5 (usually) to get an 800.
Also, your math is wrong. 42 right, 8 wrong, 0 omit. 42-(.25x8)=42-2=40.
