SAT Math Confusion

I took the SAT-1 in November and got 690 in Maths. I was actually expecting 800 because the section went very well. I answered and knew almost all the questions! Turns out I had gotten 7 questions incorrect. (3 in Numbers, 4 in Algebra)

Then, I took SAT Math 2, which is supposed to be way harder, in December and got a perfect 800.

Now, am utterly baffled! Why did I score low in SAT 1? I'm the top of my class in Maths and have taken the hardest level (called Further Maths in IB), yet this discrepancy. Could someone share some insight as to what could have gone wrong?

Dumb errors/adding, subtracting, etc. errors

Very easy to make. The SAT II has a high curve, so getting a few wrong still = 800

Math I has a harsh curve, and you pretty much need a perfect 50/50 to get an 800. You can miss several questions on Math II and score 800.
