i got a 780 on the sat math II test. should i retake the test if i'm considering applying to yale?

This must be a troll. I mean is that a serious question? How could anyone ever think a 780 is a bad score? The idea that you're even proposing such an idea is preposterous.

Well actually, getting a 780 means one has missed anywhere from 5-8. On a 50 question test, thats not what i would consider good either.

How about 750? I know that numerically it still looks good, but the percentile is horrible. Plus I feel stupid for getting that score. Or will adcoms just see me as a nerd if I try to retake it?

Monkey, you've pointed out the Catch-22 in your situation. Talk it over with your counselor, or email Dave Berry. Or something like that.

I had a 750....

I had a 710...

I didn't take it...

If you are disappointed with a 750, then don't submit it. It's not a particularly stellar score, but it would also look strange if your file showed that you retook it. Pick something you think you can do better on. If I had gotten a 780, I would have been disappointed, but I wouldn't have taken it over. My counselors have always discouraged retaking SAT II's.

780 is fine
besides, if you take more than 3 SAT II's, they take your best 3 :)

Why would it look strange if you retook an SAT II? It'd also be more logical to improve a weak area than learning another subject.

I got in on a 790. There are much more important things to dedicate your energy towards.

Crazyness! I applied to yale with 2 800s and a 770 (in math I) and i was fine. A 780 is an excellent score, even by yale's standards.

780 is more than fine. One of the reasons the curve is so good on the 2C is that the test is pretty difficult given that the test taker only has an hour to complete it. Also, every college counselor I talked to told me not to worry so much about the percentiles because they are insignificant when compared to the actual score. If you get an 800, you're only in the 90th percentile so... Plus, I got in with a 770, so clearly a 780 isn't gonna hold anyone back...

hmmm i didn't even take Math II. a 780 doesn't hurt. no need to retake.

I got in with a 750 Math II... don't fret too much. Of course, if you're really relying on your SAT IIs, then I can understand why you'd want to retake it or take another test...

I got a 710 and made RD...chill out and do something better with your time than take another Collegeboard test...
