Hi all,
I'm currently a sophomore and I'm planning to take the SAT math subject test, but I'm not sure which one to take. I will be taking AP Calculus for my junior year, and I plan to take the subject test in October, I believe.

SO, I was wondering if Tufts (or most colleges) would accept the SAT math I, or would they rather prefer the math II?

I just want some suggestion before I actually study for it over the summer :)

Thanks ^_^

Most colleges are fine with Math 1, but most engineering schools will want to see Math 2. If you are taking Calc as a junior, you are probably good at math, so I’d definitely take Math 2. It’s going to look better, and I believe it has a more generous curve. You should be able to get a good score. You may want to take it sooner rather than later as it only covers up to Pre-Calc. Some students who wait too long find they have to do a lot of reviewing.

The Math 2 has some ridiculously hard questions, but indeed has a more generous curve.
I am told by those who know (I most definitely do not) that the “trick” with the Math 2 is to be ready for the fact that some questions will be impossibly hard, and to skip them and move on.
You can skip several questions and still get an 800; you can skip even more and still get a 740-750. But if you give wrong answers, you will lose points.
So the trick is doing a lot of practice tests for the Math 2, and figuring out which questions are so hard that you should just move ahead.

Definitely math 2. As stated above, it has a more generous curve, and if you are taking AP Calc in your junior year then you are definitely fine. Most schools accept either, but if you plan on majoring in any engineering field, math 2 is necessary. In my opinion, definitely take math 2.

I have a question. Do you have to take Math I & Math II? Does it look good if you take both? Are you better off just taking Math II?

There is no reason to take both. Better colleges want Math II. And lesser colleges don’t need SAT Subject tests. So I’m not sure who whould be taking Math I.

Thanks. My daughter wants to take SAT Math II, but was not sure if she should take Math I. Now, she will be taking only Math II

I agree that Math II is the one to take. To the OP, why would you take the exam in the fall rather than next spring when you have another year of math under your belt?
