SAT Math II Questions

Hi,

How important is it to the know the formula for general conic sections? The Ax^2 + By^2 + ... formula and the corresponding if B^2-4ac < 0, etc?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is absolutely necessary to know:
Equation of ellipses, parabolas, circles, hyperbolas and maybe their corresponding parametric representations.

But how important is it to know latus rectum (hee hee), vertex of a parabola, focus and directrix, etc? I just cannot see the ETS asking such specific questions like that on the Math II, and if they do, it will probably be much more obvious than having to remember a formula.

What do you guys think are absolutely essential to know in terms of Geometry?

Thanks

To be honest, I went into the testing room with only know knowledge to distinguish between a circle, an ellipse, and a hyperbole.

Came out thinking I failed the bloody test, but I got a 790. I think if you want to know what really is on the test, flip through PR at your local book store. i'm assuming you are using Barrons.

I'm not sure about parametric representations, and I'm pretty sure those tend to be quite logical anyway.

I have know idea what latus rectum is (and I got 800 so you should be in good shape) but I do remember questions about vertices and foci.

latus rectum is the focal chord perpendicular to the axis of the parabola. it's length is 4a, where (a, 0) or (0,a) is the focus of the parabola.

math 2 is very simple compared to real conic sections and calculus... But you can still have 1 or 2 such questions, but they'll most likely explain the meaning of the term they introduce. (director circle, directrix, latus rectum etc.)

Anyone know where I can get online MATH2 practice tests? esp if they for free:) thanks

bump:)...............

I don't think latus rectum, vertex of a parabola, focus and directrix, etc are necessary to know in SAT math II. I have never met them in practices and test.

Take Barrons

mvogel- sparknotes, I think.

I call BS. i'm in regular trig/precalc and i expect to score 700+ according to that.

does anyone have links to previous CC discussions of people who took the math II in June/May/January and talked about their test questions and answers?

Discussing the SAT (I or II) questions are illegal.

I'm pretty sure you can discuss it after the embargo is lifted...

After the subject tests, the users on CC compile a list of the question/answers.

Questions do get discussed, but they are not posted - just some hints.
As a matter of fact, posting real SAT questions constitutes ToS violation. Please be aware.
