SAT Math II Subject Test

My son is taking Alg 2 right now and is currently holding a 99 ave. Would he habve enough knowledge to do good on the Math 2 subject test after the semester or schould he wait and take it when he has some PreCal under his belt which he will be taking the second semester.

Definitely wait for Precalculus unless he feels extremely confident about trigonometric functions and polar coordinate systems. He might know OF these things now but trust me, there is so need for him to take the test now. In fact, I recommend waiting until he is enrolled in calculus (basically as late as possible) so he can be overprepared. It's all about familiarity and not being intimidated. Algebra 2 is definitely too early. What grade is he in?

He is only in 10th grade - math and science are his strengths - and he goes ahead and self studies as well before it is taught to him.

There is no need for him to take it now. Think about it...he would get no added benefit from taking it now. But he will CERTAINLY get a higher score if he waited until January or spring of junior year. He seems like a smart kid, but he should wait until he gets his PSAT scores back to decide anything SAT-related.

Dont take it. He will fail if he's only taken Alg. 2
