Does anyone know what score range they are looking for on the SAT Math II for placement?

Thank you threegirlsmom! It seems kind of redundant to have to take the Math SAT II if you have already gotten a 5 on the AP Calc. AB exam but thankfully D took the SAT Math II for other schools that she applied to. I guess as long as she gets a 3 or higher on the BC exam then she will take Math 233.

You definitely want to get over a 3 on the BC exam and get placed into 233. Last year my daughter had a last minute freak out and was worried that she wouldn’t do well on the exam so we did standby testing for the SAT II as a backup. She did not want to wind up placed into Algebra! Ultimately, it was a wasted morning taking it because she did well on the Calc BC exam and placed into 233. Good Luck!

3GM- I didn’t quite follow what you were saying. It looks to me like taking the SAT II will only place you out of Math 110P. My D got a 700 on the M SAT II and a 5 on the AP Calc. AB which places her out of M 110P and 231. She is taking Calc. BC right now and while you never know until you get your scores back I am pretty certain that she should score over a 3 since she has gotten four 5’s and one 4 on her previous AP tests and isn’t having any difficulties in the class so far.

If this spring’s AP scores aren’t back when she registers then how can she be placed into 233?

My DD’s orientation and registration was after AP scores were back, so she was able to use her actual score from the BC exam. I am not sure what they do if your registration takes place before the scores are back.

The math adviser listed on that link was very informative and happy to respond to my emails last year. You might want to send a quick email and ask. Or, just choose an orientation date after scores are back. I think my daughter went around July 18 or 19 last year. There is no need to get an early orientation to secure spots in classes. They release a certain number of seats in all of the classes per each orientation date.

You do not have to take the subject test if you have gotten a 3+ on BC. They stress that EVERYBODY has to take it, but that’s not true.

At orientation, an academic advisor will talk to you about the scores you already have and you can tell them what you expect you will get on your exams from senior year. If you think you got a 3 or above and want to register for 233, you can do it! Someone does look over your schedule before you can leave the lab, but they don’t know anything about your scores. You can register for anything and stay in the class as long as you have the scores by the time classes start. If you sign up for 233 and get a 5 on your scores a few weeks later, you’re fine. If you get less than a 3, you will have to drop the class once add/drop starts.

Some people will end up taking the SAT math II during the fall of their freshman year and then take their first math class the spring semester. Overall, it’s not a big deal.

Thanks for the great advice!

My S also registered last summer without his AP scores but we brought his HS transcript with us. He had a 97 average in Calc BC (unw) and scored perfect on SAT I math and told them he felt confident with his AP score. He never took SAT II and when we called admissions they said not to worry about it. Like Jessimo said that was enough for him to register for 233.
