Sat Math problem help

Hi I'm new to this site and I just took a practice test and this was the only question I could not figure out. I really have no idea how to approach the problem. Thanks for the help!!

17) If 3x + 5y is 8 more than 3x - 5y, the value of which of the following can be determined?

A) x
B) y
C) 3x + 5y
D) 3x - 5y
E) xy

HEy the answer is Y , you move the xs and ys over and u get 10y=8

wow.. i misread the answer sheet and thought the answer was C, which is what got me confused. I got b :) but didn't answer it since i wasent sure. i feel dumb :(
