if it takes 15 people 8 hrs to make 100 items, then how many hours does it take 6 people to make half the items?

-adapted from perfect score movie.
can someone show me how to do this?

yeah. The easiest way to think about it is in terms of units, which show you how the equation should be.

i still dont see the solve for this specific problem . can some1 solve it and show the work? What kind of math should i review to be proficient at this type of problem?

ok basically you see that 18 people take 8 hours to make 100 items.
now the items changed to 50 and the people number changed to 6.
now here's the possibly trick. don't multiply 18x8x100 and divide it by 50x6.
This is obviously wrong because the answer is unreasonable.

basically just say 15 ppl rate = 15x8 or 120people/hours rate to make 100 items
this means (divide 120/100 by 20)

6 people/hours rate to make 5 items
now since its 50 items we multiply 10 so we get

6 people/ 10 hours rate

i might have messed up i just kept on typing without even looking at the problem again :(

Dimensional Analysis from chemistry/ physics makes this simple.... think of it in terms of units as 1of42 said before.

Lets say n = the number of hours to have 6 people create 100 items. These quantities vary inversely, and the amount of work necessary to build 100 items remains constant so:
15(8) = 6(n)
n = 20

Because n is the number of hours 6 people need to make a 100 items, and you want the number of hours they need to make 50 items, you divide 20/2 = 10
So 10 is your answer. I could be wrong...

Just remeber that people-hours/item remains a constant
so (15x8)/100 = 6x hrs/50 and solve for x=10 hours the anaswer
