SAT Math question

Can anyone tell me how to get the correct answer (A)?

Here is the problem:

I keep getting (m*sqrt(2))/2 for an answer.

Answered my own question. I was right. (m*sqrt(2))/2 is the same as m/sqrt(2).

[rant]But really, the CB shouldn’t be allowed to keep a sqrt in the denominator. ***? I mean thats like the answer to a question being 12+13. They would simplify 12+13 to 25. But here, they leave a sqrt in the denominator which is wrong to do mathematically…ugh…I hate CB/ETS[/rant]

it’s not ~technically~ wrong. why bother spending the time simplifying it when it’s a timed test? they both equal the same number. most math teachers say it’s bad “math grammar” or whatever you want to call it, but the SAT/AP tests will take any equivalent.

To be honest, I typed it into my ti-89 and it automatically rationalizes the denominator. So I got completely messed up for that question.

Hehe, not your fault, the SAT fails at actually testing mathmatical knowledge. You can have the right answer and still get a million problems wrong.
