Going through Dr.Chung’s SAT Math book and this question has stumped me.
In a certain reading group organized by only senior ad junior students, 3/5 of the students are boys and the ratio of seniors to juniors is 4;5. If 2/3 of girls are seniors, what fraction of the boys are juniors?
If anyone could explain it I would be extremely grateful, thank you!
So since we are given fractions and we need to determine another fraction, we can use arbitrary numbers to allow us to solve this problem more efficiently.
Lets say there are 90 students in total (this gives easy numbers)
That means that there are 40 seniors and 50 juniors.
It also means that 54 students are boys and 36 are girls.
Thus, 2/3*36 means that there are 24 senior girls. Thus there are 12 junior girls. So 50-12=38 junior boys.
