SAT Math Score: 490 - No chance of being accepted?

I love WPI’s Interactive Media and Game Design program which is why I -was- going to apply.
However I just noticed on the data sheets (http://www.wpi.edu/offices/ir/data-set.html) it shows there are no students with a math score below 490 have been admitted. But my GPA, essay, etc. however are fine.

I normally get extra time accommodations on tests for disability but the processing took 2 months and it was too late for this years admission. I may just have to try again next year and transfer.

Do you think this one score has killed my chances?

*sorry I mean no scores below 500

I do have an art portfolio for this year. Should I just do the flex path and send that instead?

Yes, the Flex Path is a great option for you!

great thanks

WPI might not be the best fit for everyone. Scores aside, consider carefully the term system of four seven week terms. The work load is very rigorous and the pace can be hard to maintain.

Do the Flex Path option.

Think to yourself honestly about why you did poorly on the SAT math. Is it because you have difficulty with basic arithmetic? WPI requires all students to take at least two calculus courses and programming skills are fairly strongly correlated with mathematical skills. If so, consider 4getit’s statement and think whether a technical school is the best choice for you. Engineering and CS build on math and I’m not sure how many jobs are available for IMGD art majors.

WPI does provide some support for students with disabilities, but think to yourself whether you would be comfortable with a Math score below the 25th percentile of the school you are applying to.

I would suggest intensely practicing SAT math and retake it with the extra time as well and also consider applying to a school where you would be happy but which is less mathematically demanding.
