SAT Math score vs Math IIC Score

what looks better: A 700M or a 800MIIC?

700 Math
its much bigger of an admission factor...

Compare this:

SAT is 33% of the admission factor
All SAT IIs are typically less than 20%

800MIIC. it shows u can handle higher level math, although the curve is extremely generous. 700 M in SAT math doesn't say much because it could have been a result of maybe 4 or 5 silly errors or something since the material is pretty basic stuff. Then again, I suppose it depends on the schools. UCs tend to weight SAT IIs more than other schools.

i did better on IIC. i have a 780M (well 760 on the new one since the curve sucked) and an 800 IIC. SAT I math just throws tricks thats all.

everyone does better on sat2 math. if you want to get anywhere you are expected to have a good score because its not a population based curve. 90 percentile is an 800.

the sat 1 math however compares you more to your class. a 700 math, while a good score, puts you at 95 % nationally. This is because cb scores the sat1 sections on a bell-shaped curve, unlike the sat2s. the sat1 is gonna have a higher impact on your admission chances unfortunately. but hey, theres always october.

well i got a 740M on the May sat, i was jw tho about the comparison factor

I know I'm dense, but I am not getting how the curve works for the SATIIs (math). Is a 740 on IC good? I don't know the percentile. If it isn't a bell curve, how is it curved? From some old posts, I am gathering that a 740 is probably 4 wrong. But someone else said that could be like 65 percentile. Someone else said it could be 90 percentile. Any ideas?

lol - 65 percentile with a 740? getting a 740 on Math IC is probably around 95-96 percentile. 740 on IC is really good

wut is the raw score out of wut of the may math iic to get an 800? how bout a 700?

43 raw score for 800. Pretty sweet. I thnk 33 raw score for 700

out of a 50 raw score?

thats correct girlfriend

yea the curves are crazy for sat2s. Thats why the writing sat2 is not comparable with writing on the new sat even though its the same content. the sat1 is based purely on the bellcurve with around 500 being the median/mean and then 1SD=600, 2SD=700, 3SD=800. Anyone who knows stat knows that 600 puts you around 80% and 2SD puts you at 95%. 3 SD is like 99.5% but it might be little lower on the SAT.

For the SAT2s they realize that normally smarter people will be taking it(selective schools want sat2s and you get to choose which 2 you want to take so you're obviously taking in the 2 ur most comfortable with). Thats why they dont set a curve.

a 740 as 65% sounds just about rite.

"740 sounds pretty high, but it's 74%tile"- This was referring to the October Math IIC. My question is whether the IC 740 would be an even lower percentile. From the posts on this forum, it sounded like the IC 740 would be a higher percentile.

Here is the link to all the percentiles for the SAT IIs.

do u have a link to the raw score to the actual score

No- but google SAT II percentiles and sparknotes has a section with all the raw scores equating to 800 based scores for each test. You have to look under each test separately.
