I got a 730 on the Math II subject test. Will this hurt my chances of getting into the cockrell school of engineering at UT Austin? I really don’t want to take it again because the next test is during school, but depending on the feedback I get from this post I might take it again.
I have taken the SAT and I got a 1480 on it with a 760 Math score as well
UT Austin does not require SAT subject tests. As far as I know, they don’t even consider SAT subject test scores for general admissions. Although some honors programs at UT might consider subject test scores, but only for admission to that specific honors program.
Unless you are applying to other schools that require the Math II subject test, probably OK to not re-take it.
I’m going to assume that you’re going to apply to other schools that are the same level as UT Austin. In that case, definitely retake it. A 730 is near the 50th percentile, so you have no choice but to bring that up. If UT Austin is the only school you’re applying to that’s like that, then you’re probably fine if subject tests aren’t required.
UT Austin wants subject tests only from home-schooled applicants. You can possibly get college credit for high scores in math or physics subject tests but they are not factors in determining admisison.
Above a 700 will hardly hurt esp if you have something else to back it up, for ex high AP score on calc
