SAT Math (Venn Diagrams)

Probably my largest weakness in SAT Math is Probability and Venn Diagrams. I cringe when I see them.

<a href="http://www.satquantum.com/og2journal/2012/1/18/practice-test-2-section-2-question-13-math-official-sat-stud.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.satquantum.com/og2journal/2012/1/18/practice-test-2-section-2-question-13-math-official-sat-stud.html</a></p>

Basically, it's Test 2, section 2, #13 on BB ed 2

Can anyone tell me why that 3 counts? I thought it said only from Y and Z, thus it would be 7. If you add that 3, then wouldn't it also be from Y, Z, AND X?

I would have gotten all the questions in this section correct if it wasn't for this one -_-

It's embarassing cause it's not even a 4, 5 level question (which i got right >.>).

If something is in X, Y and Z, then in particular, it is in Y and Z.

In other words, there are two ways to be in Y and Z. You can be in ONLY Y and Z, or you can be in Y and Z as well as some other stuff (in this case the other stuff is X).

Alright, thanks Dr Steve! then I guess I got mixed with some terminologies. It gets really confusing sometimes for me as to what the SAT is really asking me to do :/

Btw, I saw your video where you did a section in just 8 minutes… That was really impressive. Hopefully I get somewhere near that someday between now and may lol.

Well you don’t really need to do it in 8 minutes. If you’re going for an 800, read my article “The correct way to take the SAT for an 800 in SAT math.” (It’s posted on this foruk\m - just do a search.) That article gives a way to pace yourself that is a bit more reasonable for the average student that is currently scoring at least in the mid 600s. Try taking a practice test following those guidelines.

Also, it sounds like your main weakness is Prob, Statistics, Logic and Sets. I would recommend focusing on Level 1, 2 and 3 problems in those topics for a few weeks so that you make sure you understand the basics. Once you’re very comfortable with these easier problems, then start working on some Level 4 problems in these topics.
