i disagree, regardless of the amount of questions / timing, the sat has much more trickier math and the hardest math problems on the SAT are much harder than the hardest ones on the act.

anways 710 vs 31 here

LMU was spot on…I do a lot better on ACT because the questions aren’t made to trick you. They are 110% made to SEE IF YOU KNOW YOUR MATH.

Not really, hardest ACT ones are generally logic based and are fairly hard. The ones I get wrong on the ACT math are ALWAYS because I cannot do them. On the SAT math, now for the 2nd time in a row, the only reason I miss questions is because of misreading the tiny print (forgot to wear glasses). They’re significantly easier other than the fact that they’re usually worded in ways to distract you from what you need to know (less then equal, greater, you won’t notice which it said when you read a SAT question, no joke). Sometimes you might think you’re taking a english test and not a math test. The last problem I remember on the SAT didn’t require any math. I drew a picture with 2 lines and that was the right answer… no math at all… Lots of guess and check problems too, which has no place in a math test.

And your 710 is higher than your 31 btw.

I think the ACT is better but I might have a bias…

700 vs. 35

SAT:
Harder
More time

ACT:
Easier
A lot less time

the only real difference

How is the SAT a lot harder? When has guess and check problems with A LOT of words and numbers more hard? I agree it is hard to keep track of the barrage of worthless crap thrown at the test taker, but it’s supposed mathematical skills not how well you can read paragraphs of text or notice how many different letter variables there are in a question.

I like the ACT math better. Bias: 35 v. 730.

ACT Math = more practical

SAT Math - somewhat less math related

740/36, but I got an 800 on math ii, go figure.

SAT Math II is a lot more math oriented. It’s hard to actually believe that the CollegeBoard actually made an objective test honestly.

My S said that ACT math required mostly algebra, geometry and trig. He thought there was not very much Calc… and he scored a 36 (Math section and Composite).

Has yet to take the SAT, but will in the fall. We shall see how it compares for him at that point.

“not much calc”? Check the official website for the ACT test, there is NO calc

800 sat/36 act
both were really easy for me
but sat has tricky wording :(
