SAT Math

I was wondering whether Cornell or any university for that matter compares/contrasts the scores for SAT I and II math. I got a 710 in SAT I and I got a 760 in Math Level 2. Will this SAT II score would maybe overshadow (just a bit) my SAT I math score?

I'm almost positive it would. An admissions rep looking at your SAT scores will definitely note that you're good at math and that the SAT I showing was a fluke, but not even a bad fluke at that.

i wonder about mine, i got a 680 math, yuck i was so sad...i know the math was so easy

but a 750 math 2 SAT 2, so maybe that makes up for it...?

710 and 680 arent bad scores in the first place, im assuming since you guys think ur math score is bad that you scored much higher on the verbal meaning you had well over a 1400, which is solid.

im the one who has to worry , i have a 760 on math, yet a 610 on verbal.

Big F, your 750 on mathII definitely made up for it.

im the other way, i got an 800 on sat I and 700 on the IC

ugh.

haha.

how is that possible >.< ..bad day maybe?

I'm the opposite -- 790 on SAT I, and 710 on SAT II level 2.

My excuse: I was unprepared!

^ im with you eddieee.

i hope the colleges look at the 800 and just think i had a bad day on the SAT II.

bobbobbob (3 bob's...thats weird)

SAT math tests ur mental acuity when it comes to using basic knowledge to solve mild-brain teasrs sorta thingy's

SAT II math tests ur actual knowledge o Math

so if u get 800 in 1 and 700 in 2, one's not goin to cover up rom the other, because the concentration's totally different

I think most top students score higher on the IIC, so I don't think a 760 compensates for a 710. However, those scores are good so I don't think you ought to be worried.

My problem is that I just suck at the SATs. I would kill for a 710 in Math! (Or in anything for that matter...)

If you think that an SAT score in the low 700s is going to keep you out then I'm here to show you that you aren't sane (or that your app is lacking in a more substantial area).

Arjun, I disagree. I think a higher score on SAT II math proves ability in just as you said, "knowledge o Math" over ability in solving "mild-brain teasrs" of the SAT I.

MAths 2c has a much better generous curve gradation.. so the accuracy level for a 760 in maths 2 c may be even less than or equal to that of a 710 in maths sat1 althought the course content differing considerably... ..though nothing compensates when admissions are concerned...

I had a 800 sat1 maths.. 800 maths 2c and 790 maths 1c .. yet my CR scores and writing scores are gonna killl coz there aint anything called compensation... plenty of gud guys with better stuff already there..

SM

Arjun is actually correct.

SATI Math is like a math based brain teaser test whereas SAT II Math IIC is a math knowledge test.

To the OP: Both scores are fine, so there's no compensation needed.

Also, not to burst your bubble, but 750 isn't a particularly amazing score on the IIC test. It's probably in the middle 50%. The test has a strong curve. I got 770 and that put me in the 82nd percentile. 10% of the testers get an 800.

Yes absolutely..right..

i dont think the new SAT I math is like brain teaser questions... it now covers algebra II and more content

i used my graphing calculator extensively and found it wasnt much tough thinking, unlike the old SAT math i took in 10th grade

Yeah, by no way am I saying that 760 is an awesome score, that percentile thing makes me sad. But hopefully the adcoms will realize that I'm capable of doing math lol.

Well, if you applied for a major that isn't very math related . . . it won't hurt. I mean, I doubt the adcoms would care much if you're majoring in History or something.

I want to go into the Pre-Med direction, and hopefully end up @ Weill Cornell. I'm your typical Indian.
