**SAT Mathematics Level 2 Discussion Thread January 2016**

I’m a sophomore in precalculus and I plan to take the Math 2 in June. I would really like to get a 800.I scored 700 on the PSAT math, but that was mostly because I didn’t finish. I’m probably the top student in math in my grade.

I’ve purchased Dr. Chung, Barrons, and the Collegeboard practice test book. What would be a good study plan?

@willw12 . I am sure that Barrons is enough for this test. There is a post that compared Barrons scores to the actual test scores and most of the posters got a 50-100 point boost on there Barrons score. If you shoot for a 700 on Barrons you will most likely get an 800 on the real one. I myself have scored between 680, at the beginning, and 750, my most recent score, and I feel well prepared going into the test.

So many grammatical errors…

I went through 3 practices in the Barron’s book and a test online. I got 760, 710, and 770 in the Barron’s book in chronological order, but it didn’t seem like an impressive array of scores. Today, I took the My Max Score Practice Test online and kind of screwed it over, receiving a 710. Would these 710’s mean anything significant? Perhaps it’s because of the different skill areas that I have to work on? I haven’t taken a look at the College Board book, but I’m assuming that their practice questions are very similar to the actual exam…Any recommendations on good books that I could look into?

Also, is the fact that I’m still taking practice tests too late? Cause from seeing other’s comments, you all seem much more prepared and ready with lots of practice tests.

Lol I haven’t done any practice tests @1618dz. I don’t know how you guys are all able to actually sit down and do stuff

Well, I couldn’t do that much because of coursework… :-/

I’m gonna try to take a test now… I’m just so bad at studying. I’m genuinely terrified that I’m going to fail out of college

Hey everyone,

I just had a question that I was hoping those of you who’ve taken the test previously can give me some guidance on.

I took the first collegeboard practice test and got an 800 missing 1 question and omitting 4, however I took the second and missed like 6 and omitted 5 for a score of like 730. I was wondering if anyone else has found the second practice test more difficult and was hoping you guys could give me some advice/strategies as I’m taking it next Saturday. Thanks.

@zaxm12, what I would usually do is review the concepts after I take the test. Also, you can change the questions that you got wrong into a different type of problem, which can practice that skill area (i.e. matrices, conics, (etc.)). The only good way to effectively study is to repeat, analyze and practice for the math 2. I apply this philosophy to everything that I study; As the foundation to effective studying, repetition and practice are the main ways to improve.

@zaxm12
The real test is harder than BOTH of the released collegeboard tests. You should be COMFORTABLY scoring 800 on those. By comfortably i mean as in raw score of 48~49/50

@Mohijto
Hey, do you know what you have been getting in Barron’s when you got a 770 on the math 2?

And can anyone chance me getting a 800?

I got 800s on all of barrons and 800s on 4/5 practice tests i took from john chung and 800s on the two released CB tests.

Thanks.

@YoLolololol I am sure that you will get 800 on the real test if you got 800’s in all the practice tests. Would 710, 760, 770, 790, 780 on the Barron’s practice tests show any possibility for an 800?

Shoot. I just took the last test in the Barron’s and got a 760…sadly no 800. Will I fail the Math 2? :-/

How’s the Kaplan book? I ordered the Barrons book from the library like 2 weeks ago but it never came in, so all I have is Kaplan. I took my first practice test just now and I got a 590 on it. I need a 750 on the real thing.
I’m so annoyed. I understand math, I really do, just for some reason when I go to compute things I just mix up the numbers and make dumb mistakes. I do well in school because I get credit for knowing the concepts, but these tests don’t show that I understand…

How many omitted & wrong would put you on a track for a 700 at least? I regret not studying earlier, but life happened. I’ve been studying so hard for SAT Biology & dealing with school + life that I pushed off Math 2 studying till last weekend.

Anyone in the Northeast get the SATs postponed due to a snow storm? How does that work? Do they get the same test as the other states or do they make a new test

@1618dz

I know people who scored around 700 but got 800s on the real thing but I also know people who have scored about the same.

Hmmm. Is there any reason for scoring around the same? Oh yea, also, I took some My Max Score practice tests and found that one of them left me with 3 questions undone, leaving me with a 760…At least the diagnostic test was 800. And a Kaplan test I took online was 800. How are you able to score that solid 800 streak?

I just took another Kaplan Test. I just got a 790, which isn’t in the range of my expectations. I hope I can get 800 soon enough… ^:)^

@1618dz
Don’t worry about it too much. I think you studied enough and have a good chance of a 800 considering you’ve gotten 770+ on Barron’s practice tests. At this point you probably need to rely some on luck.
