Can someone elaborate on why the answer is E?

If you substitute 1 for y and solve the expression by using the formula a^m divided by a^n =a^m-n,you will get 2^2 which is equal to 4.So whatever the value of w you take the answer will be 4.I hope you understand.

Good Luck! :)

(w + 1) - (w - 1) = w + 1 - w + 1 = 2. So the expression is equal to 2^2 = 4 regardless of what w is. In othr words, w x 1 = 4 for every real number w.
