I was wondering how colleges view an SAT score that's a bit higher than expected for someone's GPA, since mine don't completely line up. I got a 2350 my first time taking the SATs, and I have a 4.3ish GPA (I'm pretty sure in the top 10%, my school doesn't rank but it shows distribution charts), while on my school's naviance it seems like that score would line up more closely with a GPA closer to 4.5 or 4.6. I try relatively hard but it's taken me awhile to really start trying hard in school- this year I'm trying a lot harder and my GPA for the year will probably be 4.5, however my total GPA will be around 4.36. I've heard that high SAT scores can make up for a slightly lower GPA, but I've also heard that a high SAT score when the GPA doesn't correspond leads to colleges thinking a student is lazy. So I'm wondering- if my scores line up with a usual GPA a bit above mine (not drastically) and my GPA has been going consistently up since freshman year, will that still look bad?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

its gonna look HORRIBLE!

Dude ur fine dont worry thats really amazing

Don’t overthink this one. The difference between a GPA of 4.5 and 4.3 is not that big of a deal. Especially if the grades have been improving over time.

Your SAT score is excellent. Your grades are more than decent. There are plenty of colleges and universities out there that would like you, and some might even give you sizable merit scholarships. Read through http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html and see what you think.

ok, thanks so much! i had a feeling that the whole smart but lazy judgment would only apply to a more noticeable discrepancy, but i wasn’t sure, since if you look at the scattergram graphs from my school i’m a little off the main spectrum as far as the comparison goes. great to know i probably have nothing to worry about! :)

You’re fine - both your GPA and SAT are excellent. A high SAT score can only help, and your GPA is definitely not a problem.

It can imply laziness, but the difference between 4.3 and 4.5 isn’t really significant enough. If it was like, a B-average student ranked 20% getting a 2300, then it screams laziness, but I think you’re probably good.

I thought you were gonna say that you have a 2350SAT and a 3.5 GPA or something. You’re fine. more than fine actually.
