So I registered my collegeboard account a few months back, before I knew that my name had to be matched exactly with the name on my passport. I tried making a new account but the page forced me to register for the SAT with my old account. Does it matter whether I register for the SAT with the right name, having the wrong name on my collegeboard account?

Yes it does. You should call the College Board and explain it. have all of your account information with you: email address, password, DOB and SS#. The CB has added several strict security measures since they caught a college student taking the SAT for high school students and charging money. The name on the students official ID has to match the name used for the test.
