SAT OCT 2013 Essay screw up!!

So I just did my SAT for the second time, and to my delight I didn't read the prompt properly and wrote a one and a half long essay on something quite irrelevant.

The prompt was whether we should get influenced or indulged by public figures and whether we should start focusing on more important issues. I somehow read public figures as " statistics" or as numerical values for God knows what reason!! My essay is therefore completely irrelevant as I wrote about Forbes and United Nations related to what I thought the prompt meant.

Therefore, should I go ahead and cancel my score?

That’s an interesting situation you got there! You probably should if you are sure you got a 0 and are aiming pretty high.

Yeah.
I screwed up as well.
I highlighted how the media covered everything that public figures did.
For the Civil Rights Act,the Montogomery Bus Boycott was covered,Luther King’s speech was broadcasted, and when Ray Charles boycotted the concert halls that did not grant access to Black people, newspapers published this.As a result, the world’s attention was on America and the United Nations pressured the government to end racial inequality. And in 1964,the Civil Rights Act was passed.

For my second example,I did more than screw up! -_-
I had no time left, and just put how women were feeling oppressed by gender inequality. So they protested in front of the White House and all around America.Their fight was covered by F.Douglass’s press ‘Equality for All’.In the end,on 10 August 1920,the 14th (or 19th) amendment was passed: gender inequality became unlawful.

I even started my essay with an irrelevant quote:‘If you haven’t gained attention on your fight, you’re sure to lose’.->Malcom X (false quote).

As you can see,I too was well off-topic!
:frowning:
I screwed up my performance.

I’ll probably retake in December. :(

If you wrote a coherent and grammatically correct, etc essay I think you’ll score just fine. Following the prompt exactly isn’t the top criteria for scoring the essay. It would be silly to cancel your entire test for one mistake that isn’t going to cost you significantly.
