SAT Oct 2017 discussion thread

RT, mean you guys do have some questions about the exam you wanna talk about right?

am curious who the author is for the essay on unemployment in the writing section and who the author is for the feminist-slavery passage in the reading section.

Didn’t see a thread yet on the October SAT. Just wondering how everyone thought the test went for them. Personally, I felt the reading was a little difficult but the writing and math were very easy.

@John135 I agree with what you said. I thought reading started out fine but last 2 passages were very difficult. Hoping for a good curve on reading!

does anyone know what the answer to the math question about the exponential growth was

Is the SAT Oct 7 international exam different than USA?

I was wondering the same about hardly any posts made on Oct 7 test. I am an international student. Took the SAT on Oct 7. Reading was brutal. Math and Writing were okay. Essay was unusual. I am wondering how does the CB do the curving if the tests are different…and if the tests are same, dont they run into risk of paper leaking?

@computer1000 R u talking about the one with the cereal servings?

yes that one as well as the one that had variables h and 3.01 something

also how do you guys think writing was. toward the last 30 i was fine but i was confused on a few in the beginning. overall do you think the curve will be greater or less for writing because i thought it was a little difficult

@computer1000 I think for the exponential growth one I put the equation h(3)^x or something like that.

@vxm000 where did u take it? I took it in asia and thought the reading was brutal too. And writing and math were pretty easy

@finalclubbound i took test in korea. the reading was killer, but the other parts were ok. hope to get good scores

do you think i should keep my scores if i did overall very well in reading and i think i got maybe 5 wrong in total between both math sections and im not sure about writing because i got kind of distracted starting the writing section

@John135

@computer1000 5 wrong in math would probably translate to low to mid 700s. If you did well in reading, you should be fine because I’m expecting a decent curve. Lastly, if your writing is around 350 or above, I wouldn’t retake it. Overall, I think you should be fine.

I thought this was a difficult test. I cruised through reading until the last two lassages. Writing wasn’t bad but there were tricky questions. I got a 790 on math last time but this math I thought was crazy difficult. Just hoping to improve my english section for a better superscore. I have written off math at this point.

Yeah, I thought parts of the test were harder than usual, too :confused:

hey guys so for those of you who have taken the test multiple times, are there any tricks for guessing on certain math multiple choice questions because certain ones have topics that you just can’t possibly know, whether it be bc you didn’t learn them or can’t remember them. I especially struggle with some student fill in questions towards the end of math section 4 which can be tricky. Also, have any of you been doubtful after a test, then received your scores and they were actually better than you expected?? @John135

@computer1000
I would suggest answering all the questions you know first skipping qs you don’t know and then going back and guessing either B or C (had to be same letter throughout section). I say b or c because those are the answers that are more statistically significant. I hope this helps!
