Hi I am a student from India, I wanted to know with following stats will i get into a decent university ?
SAT Score- 2090(CR-750, Writing-670, Maths-680)
Class 9 percentage- 92.4(ICSE)
Class 10 percentage-95.4(ICSE)
Class 11 percentage-92.8(CBSE)
Extraciricullars-
Vigyan Bharti (International NGO) Student State President

Financial Aid Requirements - As much as possible (Parents can afford unto $15k/year )(Will take loan if need not met)

I wanted to know what are my chances of getting into any decent university with these stats and what financial aid can i expect? Or should i retake the SAT once to try to improve the score or take the ACT?

Have you looked at the University of Alabama at all? Popular choice thanks to their scholarships.

I just looked it up thank you for your reply. I will of course keep it as my safe school when i apply. Any other schools where I have a chance of getting admission with some scholarship with good engineering programs? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
And another query I completed my 7 grade from US middle school. Should i mention it or is it inconsequential?

Receiving adequate financial aid is your biggest hurdle.

@txstella Yes i understand that , but i am prepared to take educational loan. I just want to be accepted into a decent university with good engineering program. Any financial aid will of course be highly helpful. But I don’t want the financial aid to act as a hurdle. What will you recommend taking loan and going to a school or going to school which is not as good but is awarding aid? And any colleges you can recommend ? I will be obliged by your assistance.

slow down. It is a hurdle…a high hurdle. Taking education loans to cover a large amount of unfunded costs is extremely risky. Will your parents have to cosign? How much will these banks or whatever lend you by yourself?

How much will your country or its banks let you borrow? Will your parents have to cosign?

If you’re looking for higher rated schools that give need based aid, not only are those harder to get into as an Int’l (particularly from India), but the aid will be based on your parents income/assets…not based on what they’ll pay.

It’s very dangerous to borrow a lot as an undergrad, particularly as an int’l engineer. There are far fewer companies here that will hire int’ls…mostly because of security concerns and proprietary information concerns.

Your M+CR is a 1430. You need to retest for a couple reasons…your Math should be a 700+ to improve your acceptance chances into the higher ranked en’g programs.

@mom2collegekids Thank you for your response. I didn’t clearly think it through. Yes the loan will require my parents to cosign and they are ready to do that. It will cover unto $200k,if cosigned by parents otherwise upto $40k. The repayment period is of 15 years. This is the best option available in my country. The amount i have quoted is the most they can pay (they together have $50k/year income). What schools would you recommend for which i won’t have to take a huge amount of loan. And can i expect to get into any top 50 schools for engineering? Any help will be appreciated.

Should i attempt ACT instead of SAT or should i stick with SAT as i have firsthand experience with the test?
