SAT Online Course - worth it?

I was thinking about signing up for this online service in preparation for the October SAT. I liked that it provides more tests, give detailed explanations (as opposed to the Blue Book) for practice tests, and will score essays for me. The only qualm i have is that it's $70. Does anyone who has used this have anything positive/negative to say about whether or not the SAT Online Course is worth it? Thanks.

someone in [this thread (2 weeks,6 hours/day 2090 –> 2350)](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/940201-2-weeks-6hrs-day-2090-2350-a.html) said it’s worth. But I still cannot make up my mind to pay $70.
Are those tests printable and have pdf files? If yes, it’s better to share the money…

The answer explanations aren’t any different from the ones you get from the book. But for the identifying sentence errors, the online course will provide the correct or possible word/s to change the wrong part. I found that helpful, but I don’t know if that’s worth $70… The additional tests, IMO, kind of repeats the same grammar rules over and over. After going through the entire BB, 10 Real SAT, and half of the online course, I can pretty much tell if a sentence sounded like something I’ve encountered before (i.e. same structure, different words). The essay score’s not pretty accurate, in my opinion. I have doubts on ANY computer essay scoring program…

If you’re weak on CR passage questions, the extra tests would be helpful. I found other books to be quite different. Like the other posters here, I’d go for Gruber’s for math help. Some parts may be overkill (like word problems), and some parts may be weak (like functions, etc., mainly because I didn’t know much about this concept), but you can use it as a starting point and learn the others as you go through practice tests.

Overall, I’d only suggest it if you need the extra CR practice.

Oh and the tutor thing they advertise, the lessons etc., it’s the same as the ones in the book.

^ thanks so much. But please answer my questions, kaitlin, are those tests printable and have pdf forms?

The tests themselves are printable in pdf forms, but the answer explanations are not. Answers are in the same format as the BB.

I bought the course and then I downloaded the tests and copied the answer explanations to word. So I thought it was a good investment…

but are there answer explanations for the practice tests or just the problems at the end of each chapter? in the bb, it seems that there aren’t any explanations for the actual tests

How can it automatically score an essay?

that, MW2, is beyond me

There are answer explanations for each practice test on the Online Course. If I’m not mistaken, the answer explanations are available for the Blue Book on the College Board website as well.

The essay scorer is probably far from accurate. I’ve gotten 12 on every essay I’ve submitted (I doubt I’m that strong a writer at SAT essays), I believe it grades solely based on length.
