Though Bowdoin is SAT optional college, but it looks like 90% applicants send the SAT scores and Bowdoin does consider the scores if you send. My GPA is quite good 3.95/4.0 but am not good at standard test, so would not like to send the SAT. Does this hurt the addmission chance?

Or, at what score, the SAT will not “hurt” the chance in Bowdoin?

Thanks arcadia. Do you have any idea how the international students ends up upon graduation in Bowdoin? Any pattern here? Return home country/grad school/job in US?

Actually, Canasia, that info is misleading as another 30% submitted ACT scores so perhaps as many as 95% of last year’s incoming class submitted SATs or ACTs (some might have submitted both but probably not many).

When we did the info session at Bowdoin, the Dir of Admissions spent a good bit of time talking about the test optional policy. I would say that the general rule is if you’re not sending in test scores, the rest of your app has to stand extremely strong on its own. I think the admissions stats for this year hovered around 15% which is pretty low…so if you’re not sending in stellar test scores make sure you have other elements of your app that speak loud and clear to why you deserve to be one of that 15%.
