My son, who definitely wants to apply to Rice this fall, has taken each test once. On the SAT, he made 2200 (800 CR, 690 M, 710 writing). On the ACT, he made 34. On the SAT IIs, he did well on US History and Chemistry (750 and 730, respectively) but terribly on French (580, I think -- he didn't review for it and didn't realize it would cover a lot of stuff he's never had). So two questions, actually:
1) Does Rice have a preference for one test or the other?
2) Is it worth retaking either one or both?

1) No
2) It can't hurt... but his scores are already above average.

I had lower scores than him but still got in... these tests definitely matter but so do ALL other parts of the application, like essays, EC's, recommendations, etc...

And the low score on French probably won't hurt him (I don't think so, anyway), since he has high scores for history and chem. I got 800 Phyhsics, 740 Math II, and 650 History... I was worried about the 650 but it ended up not mattering.

What are the preferred SAT scores for Rice?
