SAT or ACT Scores?

I have just received my December SAT results back - a 650 math, 650 writing, and 720 critical writing, so a 2020 total. Previously, I had received a 31 on the ACT in October - a 34 english, 29 math, 28 reading, 31 science, and 32 writing. I don’t know which one looks better or which one to send to colleges - they seem practically the same. I am applying to colleges such as Reed college, Puget Sound, and Cornell University.

ACT-convention says it looks like 2060. But your 34 in English is better than any of your SATs.

ACT>SAT.

Yep, agreed. The thing is, for most schools, CR+M is the most important SAT number (this may be even more true now with the incipient demise of the SAT writing section), and your writing score is the strongest part of your SAT score. A 1300 CR+M score translates to an ACT composite of 29, according to the conversion tables that can be found on the web. So yeah, I’d go with the 31 ACT.

^^^ Actually the OP’s 2 score is 1370, which is a 31 equivalent. (They mistyped reading as writing). I said ACT was better because of its writing score and its E+M score (which a few schools prefer over composite).

You’d be fine to send both, they’re very close.

Ok, I think I’ll probably send the ACT - maybe the SAT - but probably the ACT. Thank you very much!

Oh, right you are @Hermit9 . Well, then they really are very close. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, then, I’d say.
