Long story short, Im a college sophomore living in Quebec, Canada. Never had to take any of these during my high school education. However now that Im trying to transfer to a US college I have to take one. Most universities only require one of the two.

While I know it depends on the person I was wondering which, as a whole was easier? Or at least better suited for intense pre-studying since I intend to jump in with only 2 months to prepare.

Definitely no way to say which is "easier." I would highly recommend you try a practice test for each (available as free downloads from actstudent.org and collegeboard.com). There's a nice summary of the differences at http://www.compassprep.com/act_faq.shtml. Personally I think the ACT is more straightforward in the way it tests you on academic info and it is probably better suited to intense pre-studying, but these are really just personal preferences. One simple distinction: SAT will test you on vocab whereas ACT does not, and ACT will require you to be up on more higher level math (Alg II / Trig).

Good luck.

Yeah- try each. Some people are just naturally better than one vs. the other (ACT for me), while some are equal to begin with, and can only study for one (or both).

Only way to know would be to take a practice.

Thanks. Great link. Definitely SATs for me. I despise math and consider myself naturally good at anything pertaining to language.

SAT (Math/Reading/Grammar) with Writing
ACT (Math/Reading/Grammar/Science) with Writing

SAT is clearly more language based(2/3), while ACT has a balanced portion of hard science (Math/Science) and language based (Grammar/Reading) Go figure.

The science isn't really "science" though. It's more common sense and reading than anything else.

Yes, but students who tend to be knowledgeable/excel in science classes finds it much easier to double check/read the science section. (Much easier than reading a diatribe on dull 18th century literature)

^True, but then again, one of my reading passages was on why people yawn...

^which would definitely make me yawn, and therefor be much more difficult to read.
I didn't find science too bad, but it definitely didn't help my overall score.

for me the timing made the SAT a lot easier.

My son had a 36 ACT, 2290 SAT. He preferred ACT because there is more math/science, less language, and the test is shorter, the SAT goes on forever and he was out late at a band contest the night before. I think it may depend on what your strengths and weaknesses are. if you are a junior, maybe take both?

the timing is what really killed me on the ACT, and also each section is longer.
like the math is 60 questions in an hour, which is a lot longer at a much faster pace than the SAT.

so I would definitely agree that you should take both.

Yeah... everyone in the room (myself included) was yawning during that passage...
