Sat or act

Are the scores weighed by colleges evenly? I would prefer to take the ACT, but I heard that the top universities prefer the SAT. What exam should I prepare more for.

They’re usually weighted about the same. The tests are different in terms of style, so you might be better suited to one over the other.

It can’t hurt to take both. The most highly ranked universities, particularly on the East and West Coasts, have a deep-seated historical preference for the SAT, but that preference has largely dissipated, and currently both are ranked similarly.

The difference, from my experience, is that the ACT has stricter time constraints but that the SAT has trickier problems, particularly in its Critical Reading section. Think about which kind of test sounds like something you’d be better at.
