I need a little advice. My son achieved a 2290 on the SAT (800 M&W) and a 35 on the ACT (36 M). Which score should he submit? Thanks

Both… Can he not? 35 is about equal to 2290
so you are allowed to submit both. The more the better

The official ACT-SAT Concordance tables can be found here:

http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/pdf/reference.pdf

According to the 2400-scale ACT-SAT Concordance Table, a 35 on the ACT concords to an SAT score range of 2290-2370 and a single SAT score of 2330. Thus, if you want to be very (some would say unnecessarily) technical, a 35 on the ACT is slightly better than a 2290 on the SAT. I have a friend who received the exact same composite ACT and SAT scores as your son, and he only submitted his ACT score.

In addition, if I am not mistaken, your son’s CR+M score is 1490, which concords to a 34 composite on the ACT on the 1600-scale. The 35 on the ACT should suffice.

Unless cost is a factor submit both. If you submit both, college will use that one it believes is the higher (there are a few exceptions like Gtech and Rose Hulman which will actually supercore the combined tests). Thus there is no downside to submitting both. You cannot assume the college actually follows that published concordance table noted above, which itself is now five years old and based on data from six and more years ago. Many have their own conversion tables that may differ somewhat from that one and are updated.

I would send both. Both scores are about equal. It really doesn’t hurt to send both.
