My S did better on the ACT overall -35, because it had a science component as well as math which equaled out his lower scores in verbal. He had a 800 math sat but 650 verbal. Didnt get an interview for Chancellor's :/. But got full tuition scholarship which is good for us! I think the ACT scores made the difference for him.

Yes megnut, but he also got 1450 on SAT which is an excellent score! I got only 1350, so even if i get 34-35 ACT will they look down upon my 1350 score?

If you only send the ACT score, they won't even see your SAT.

You have to do well in regard to the scores - but remember that the scores are not everything. You need the high gpa/class rank and present a transcript with AP/IB courses or the most challenging courses your school offers. (By the end of junior yr, my D had 8 AP courses; she'll have 12 AP courses by graduation.)

No one here can give you a perfect answer. Just try your best. As cliche as it sounds, that's really all you can do.

I just finished up my frosh year at Pitt and I was nominated for the Chancellor Scholar. I'm not sure where this is coming from that you need a 1400 SAT or a 32 ACT, because I had a 1340 SAT/31 ACT. I just submitted both scores. I really think whatever one is higher is the better bet or both(that worked good enough for me), they don't give preference. I didn't get an interview and thus I didn't get the actual Chancellor, but I still got nominated and I got a significant scholarship to go to Pitt, so don't be discouraged like some of these people are saying. The honors college is like any others and in the sense that it is concerned with numbers. But they really do look beyond the numbers, because tons of my friends at Pitt had higher scores than the chancellor scholars themselves. I'm not sure if you are out-of-state,but I am and there are plenty of scholarships. The main 3 for out of state students are 1) Chancellor Scholar, full-ride and pretty much money for books, study abroad, whatever you want 2) I don't know the name actually, but its full tuition. 3) I'm not sure of the name of this one either but its $10,000 a year so its lowers the cost to instate tuition and most (if not all, I'm not sure) of the out-of-state honors college kids have this one.

hey tennisguy, thanks for the help! i just hope i get the full tuition becasue i dnt think my parents can afford my whole education, seeeing htat i'll be going on to med school. but i don't thnk i'll be legible for fafsa. but anyways, do you remember what you had to do after you were nominated? did you have to send essays and recs?

If you get nominated for the Chancellors' you need to fill out another form sort of like another application, write 2 essays, I believe and have to 2 letters of recommendation. It might be only one essay. I can't remember exactly what my daughter had to do and she's not here to ask.

thanks!
are the essays hard?
