I took SAT I and scored really low (1690), and I will retake it this fall. I will take SAT II History in two weeks, and Math IIC and Chemistry this June. I recently found out that I scored better on practice ACT than practice SAT. Is it too late to take the ACT? If not, what are the dates? If I take the ACT as well as SAT I and SAT II, do I have to send all scores, or just ACT (if it is highest than the others) or SAT I and SAT II (if I score lower on actual ACT)? On my PLAN from my sophomore year, I scored 29, so I know my score on actual ACT will be higher than 29.

Most of the info you want is at ACT.org so I won't recreate it here. You have plenty of time. Register now for the June ACT test.Take the ACT and see how you do. Your PLAN score was 99th percentile (if you are remembering the 29 correctly) while your SAT score is far lower (read: aberrantly lower. Was that a fluke? What was your PSAT? Something is off.)

Don't list a high school, have the ACT scores sent only to you. That way even if you go to a school that reports all test results on your transcript, they'll never have it to report it. If you like the ACT score, you pay them to send it to the colleges directly. If your ACT is still way higher than your SAT1 or Subject Tests, some of your schools may accept your ACT as the ONLY test. Then you just don't have CB send anything and the colleges never see the SAT 1 or subject test scores scores you didn't like. But if you send one SAT, they'll send them all.

And BTW, no-you don't know your scores will be higher on the ACT than the PLAN. For several folks the PSAT and PLAN were their high points. It is, though, a good predictor of future performance on the ACT. Good luck. You'll do fine.

I live in Virginia, and I am considering to apply to Princeton, Yale, UVA and Duke. Will these colleges frown upon the ACT? Do they prefer the SAT?

Princeton will frown. Not that sure about the rest.

So I should stick with SAT I and SAT II?

Okay, I have decided now- I will stick with SAT I and SAT II; I don't want to waste my time preparing for and taking the ACT. I got 120 on PSAT as a sophomore, studied during summer, and raised my score to 40 points (160). On the SAT, my score was 1690, so this shows that my score is still increasing. I will study very hard this summer; and hopefully, I will get 2000-2090 on the retake SAT. Thanks! I feel relieved now.
